While a long list of celebrities got engaged over the holidays, it was a completely different situation for Mena Suvari.
People reported the American Pie actress filed for divorce from concert producer Simone Sestito on Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court after 18 months of marriage.
According to court documents, the date of separation was November 1 and the 32-year-old cited “irreconcilable differences.”
Ace Show Biz reported Suvari also asked the judge to not allow Sestito to receive spousal support and requested her legal name to be changed from Mena Suvari-Sestito to Mena Suvari.
The two met in 2007 at the Toronto Film Festival, and were engaged a year later. They exchanged vows in June 2010 at an intimate ceremony in Vatican City.
Before tying the knot, Suvari told Us Weekly that she adored Sestito and “his family and it just inspires me to live that kind of life.”
For those following her on Twitter, the divorce news doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
“When I let go of what’s not meant to be, I clear a path for good stuff to find me!” she recently tweeted, along with, “What women want: to be loved, to be listened to, to be desired, to be respected, to be needed, to be trusted, and sometimes just to be held.”
Before Sestito, Suvari was previously married to cinematographer Robert Brinkman. They parted ways five years into their marriage in 2005.
On a lighter note, you can catch her on the big screen once again when American Pie Reunion hits theaters later this year.
